Auld Lang Syne

Dear Readers, as is the way on your soaraway family friendly blog, a New Year's Message is an enjoyable must.  2012 is upon us, but what a year 2011 has been for your friend and humble narrator.  The pinnacle of the year passing is of course my Tokyo Nights and GENOCIDE nippon live.  There was also another Motörhead tour to see and the year saw me bade farewell to Victory Mansions.

Anyway during the month of January this blog is heading towards its 6th anniversary, and I am rather surprised that it has survived as long as it has.  I'm enjoying writing, albeit irregularly, more than ever.  Whilst first and foremost it is a vehicle for my ego and thirst for nostalgia, the blog is a chance to introduce or remind likeminded readers of some interesting film or music stuff as well as a ever so brief glimpse at your humble narrator's obsessions and needs too.  And we've built up the readership too over the last two years, principally in addition to the home market there's regular readers from the US, Japan and continental Europe.  The lifeblood of the blog is not me however but the most welcome contributors who take the time and trouble to read my often amateurish wordsmithery and in return leave comments, suggestions and participation.  Thank you especially then to the likes of Vintage Knitter, John (Medd), Steve, Toast, Mr H, Thumper, Classyjunkie, Jams O Donnell, Jerry Cornelius, OPOC, ib, Stu, Ace, brother MHB Shuhei-san, and last not least the Bright Ambassador.

And so to my Hogmanay Playlist:

Night From The Blue - Black Axe
Tokyo Nights - Krokus
Voodoo - Black Sabbath
Love Me Like A Reptile - Motörhead
We'll Burn The Sky (live from Tokyo Tapes) - Scorpions

Happy Hogmanay!
Happy New Year!
¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
謹賀新年

Haste ye back!

Happy Hogmanay to you, Jimmy! I'm looking forward to another year of the riches nostalgia has to offer. I'll be around with a bit of coal, a piece of black cake, and some Scotch so you'll have to let me in and treat me to a proper Scottish New Year.

It's always a pleasure to read your fine blog and as for the amateur status you have tagged yourself with, HP Lovecraft was an amateur fanzine writer and became a legend. You will too!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! LANG MAY YOUR LUM REEK!

This was a brilliant listen - Hawkwind on Radio 4! It's about Barney Bubbles, here's the link for you just in case you didn't catch it first time around:

I just listened to In Search of Barney Bubbles and it was very good although ultimately quite depressing.

Toast - true, it was a thought provoking listen and left me feeling sad for him and those he left behind. A very gifted, yet deeply troubled soul.

VK - So many gifted people are deeply troubled, maybe they go hand in hand?

Steve - Thanks for the New Year wishes. And for the encouraging remarks!!
I hope your start to the new year has been going well. I will check in with your blog when I get home to Blighty

Jerry - And that is a proper Scottish Hogmanay collection of traditions!!! I am in Mexico at the moment and miss the sweet sourness of Black Bun!!!
Lang may your Lum Reek as the say

Thumper - Oh yes Thanks! And yours too Lets have plenty NWOBHM please!!!

Toast - I hope and pray that the Old Ones instil in me the same fervour which they bestowed upon a certain investigator from Rhode Island before he went surely Mad!!

VK - Happy New Year to you too!
Hope it is off to a good start.

Unfortunately I missed the Barney Bubbles programme, I am in Central Mexico at the moment and the BBC iPlayer does not extend to certain programmes and replays outwith Blighty. I hope that it will be repeated in the near future. He was a troubled but a truly remarkable man.
